Your application will be reviewed by partner hotels. You will receive acceptance for ABU TELP via TELP application system
- Arrival at Antalya
For 2022 TELP students must arrive at Antalya Airport between 23 and 26 May 2022.
- What is the content of TELP?
ABU TELP is Antalya Bilim University Tourism Experiential Learning Program. TELP enables students to gain study abroad, live abroad and work abroad experience for students. TELP consists of 4 lessons total 30 ECTS. There are 3 lessons subject to change every season and 1 internship course. Sample lessons other than internship are: TURK 101 Turkish Language TRM 108 Sanitation and Hygiene and Occupational Safety TRM 373 Ancient Cities and Tourism TRM 500 TELP Internship
- Time table
Courses in June will start as soon as the students arrive in Antalya (a hybrid combination of online and face-to-face) and internships last until the end of September
- Prices and costs
A flight from the nearest airport to your university is the starting point of travel. The partner hotel that accepted you for ABU TELP will cover the cost of your flight to Antalya. The return flight will also be to the nearest airport to your university and will be paid by the partner hotel. The partner hotel will cover the TELP fees. Partner hotels finance accommodation, food and beverage, and uniforms. Students do not spend money on TELP and internships; instead, they earn pocket money.
- When will students get paid their pocket money?
Students are advised to bring some money with them for the start. TELP students receive 200 USD pocket money per month from partner hotel as of the day internship starts. If there are less than 30 days of internship in a month the days worked will be counted for pocket money. Students receive their USD 200 pocket money after completing their one-month employment.
- Internship audits and supervision
ABU Internship coordinators visit you at hotel for audits.
- Lesson attendance
Attendance minimum 70% is compulsory for all summer school lessons. 100% Attendance for TELP internship is compulsory.
- Lodging
When TELP students start their internship, they will stay at personnel lodging of partner hotel. Lodging supervisor of partner hotel audits rooms.
- Food & Beverage
When TELP students start their internship, they will receive breakfast lunch and dinner
- Uniform
TELP students receive uniform from partner hotel
- Work and free time
Telp courses are 8 hours per day. Internship work is 6 days a week 8-9 hours per day.
- Free time
Students must stay in Antalya during TELP. Students cannot travel outside Antalya during TELP. TELP students will be offered special field trip packages at their own cost.
- Health insurance
Beginning on the fortieth day (40th) of their internship, students will be eligible to get health insurance through the government. However, during the first forty days of their internship in Türkiye, students are required to obtain private health insurance from Kazakhstan.
- Can I leave early?
The dates you agree with partner hotel can only be changed with permission of partner hotel and ABU. If you leave without approval, travel expenses must be reimbursed. Penal sanctions will be applied.
- Can I stay longer?
The dates you agree with partner hotel can only be changed with permission of partner hotel and ABU. If you want to stay longer with residency permit of ABU then you must continue to be a student at ABU. Please see exchange student procedure of ABU or contact with international students office of ABU.
- TELP fee
The fee for summer internship is paid by partner hotel.
- Age limits
Minimum 18 age is required to apply for TELP
- If an emergency happened and I needed to get back to Kazakhstan immediately without completing TELP, what would happen? Will ABU or partner hotel pay for my flight back to Kazakhstan?
In case of first-degree family member emergency student can go back to Kazakhstan and flight tickets will be paid by partner hotel but this student cannot come back to ABU TELP and cannot receive transcript or certificate. If the students want to go back due to other personal reasons, partner hotel may or may not sponsor the students return depending on students work performance until the date of return. The decision of sponsoring remains with partner hotel HR manager of the facility.
- Can female students wear hijab/headscarves during their work at the hotel? Wearing a headscarf is no problem while working.
The work place and position of the students will be decided by partner hotel and partner hotels welcome all nationalities, all cultures and all beliefs.
- If I get ill during my TELP participation in Antalya, who will look after me?
All partner hotel employees are covered by governmental health insurance which covers treatments at government hospital beginning on the fortieth day of their internship. Also there is occupational health and safety doctor in each hotel. However, students are required to obtain an additional pivate health insurance from Kazakhstan during the first forty days of their internship in Türkiye.
- Can students change their departments every week? Will they be working in one department or there will be rotations?
Gaining work experience and receiving on the job training (e.g. R-USTA) is the heart of ABU TELP program. Each student must gain enough experience in the core department. If the student learns fast and if there is an opportunity for experiencing another department, partner hotel HR managers will appoint a different position for the student.
- Are students expected to prepare an “Intern Report” at the end of their internship?
Yes. Intern Report should be submitted to the relevant faculty member, designated by the Internship Commission, at the end of their internship.
- How will the TELP internship be graded?
60% Rixos + 40% ABU advisor; work discipline, ability to work in a team and alone, coming to work on time, following instructions of managers.
